The End of Eyeko Polish

No more Eyeko polish - No more Eyeko Cream - No more Pretty London?

Ok, yes, I'm a bit far behind on this news -- I spent the winter in the states and I've been really busy lately with not much time for polish. But it turns out that Eyeko has had a rebrand -- and that rebrand, apparently, has no room for polish in it.

This is so disappointing for me - Eyeko Rain is still a go-to one-coater of mine, but that tiny little bottle will only last so long. I've really enjoyed wearing their Vintage and Pastel polishes, too, and was eager to try more of their polish.

Eyeko products no more nail polish or eyeko cream discontinued

Apparently Eyeko is focusing on the 'eye' in their name* - and only making eye products; eyeliner and mascara. Even their popular Eyeko Cream and Fat Balm lines have been discontinued. On their Facebook Eyeko has said they will consider bringing back the cream, but they are out of the polish business for good.

*Nevermind that their name originally comes from the Japanese personal name 'Aiko'

Eyeko has effectively crossed me entirely out of their customer audience. I don't use eyeliner, and I don't wear black mascara -- they don't offer any shades of brown. It sounds like they are expanding to the US and trying to market themselves as a more upscale brand than they did previously - no more fun cute characters, no more nice cheap prices. Well, thanks to the polish, Eyeko... it was fun while it lasted.

Yarn and Polish? I might die!

So you may or may not know, but I'm quite the avid knitter in addition to being a polisher. So when I saw these posts on the Soak blog, I got seriously excited! My two loves, brought together in one cute package.

Soakbox Soak wash polish yarn and hand cream colours

Soak is releasing what it calls a Soakbox: a bottle of Soak woolwash and a bottle of hand cream in the same fragrance, a bottle of Essie polish, and a fingerless gloves kit with yarn dyed to match the polish!
What a neat idea and what a great gift it would make (hint, hint ;).

So the polish is Essie, the yarn is Lorna's Laces, and the patterns are no slouch either - they're each really cool and different in their own way. What a great project!

The Soakboxes can be ordered direct here, at 50 Canadian dollars a pop.

History repeats itself: New Zoya order

I was back in the USA over the winter - and, just like last time, I brought home some Zoya polish. They had another free polish special - I got two polishes free, for just the price of shipping, and tossed another bottle into my bag for good measure.

Zoya purple and orange Savita Adina Sienna matte flakie duochrome polishes

They're gorgeous!

I got three polishes, each distinct and each interesting for a different reason: First is Savita, a matte medium purple. I've never tried matte polish before but I'm really looking forward to it. They say it's very quick to dry.

Second is Sienna, an in-your-face bright orange with gold fleck or tiny flakie glitter. I love everything about this polish. I was torn between several different Zoya orange shades, but I made the right decision. Sienna is stunning.

Lastly there's Adina, a deceptive little polish that seems to be lavender purple with a green duochrome. I'm not at all sure if this will suit me, but it sure is pretty to look at.

NOTD: Essie Chinchilly

I got this polish ages ago, but I hadn't tried it out until now. (PS: I've got a new camera! Images should be sharper and colors should be truer to life now. Yay!)
Chinchilly is a fairly popular Essie shade - it's a nice neutral 'greige' suitable for a variety of situations. Application was fine - it's a decent two-coater.
The color appeals to me but I think it's a touch too cool to suit my skin. It's a hard color to describe - a grey-ey brown, with a touch more brown than its chinchilla namesake.

Hipster manicures

This post on Regretsy cracked me up. Comedic genius is just perfectly toeing the line between the ridiculous and the truth, and this nails it.

Make your own Lip Balm

This holiday season I made homemade lip balm for all the women in my extended family. It was a nice way to get something for everyone with a little thought involved. Plus, it's way easier than it sounds.
Handmade easy crafts tinted lip balm from scratch in clear tubes

I made it totally from scratch, which means I got to know every single ingredient that was in it - no scary chemicals I can't pronounce!
The best part about it is you can even make it tinted by adding in a little bit of lipstick - I put a sliver of bright red lipstick into my batch, and it gave it a subtle tint. Perfect for adding just a little bit of life into your lips even if you're not wearing any actual lipstick.

Over at my other blog, I have my tutorial and tips. Dead Easy DIY: Homemade Lip Balm.

My Little Pony: Friendship is Manicures - Rainbow Dash

Rainbow Dash saluting in front of the American flag

Rainbow Dash is a much-loved pony due to her strong personality and the fact that she's just, well, awesome. How do I do her justice in nail polish? It had to be bright, bold, and exciting...
My little pony funky french manicure nail polish
I started with basecoat and one coat of Barry M Blueberry Ice Cream - a nice sky blue. Then, I put a coat of Eyeko Pastel over it - which is more turquoise, with duochrome shimmer. It's an amazing color, but unfortunately not very opaque. One coat over the Blueberry Ice Cream gave it just a little oomph - it looked streaky during application, but after drying it came out fine.

I gave the blue plenty of time to dry, then started on my rainbow funky french. I only have five fingers, and there are six/seven rainbow colors, so sadly I had to kick Orange out of the party. For red, I used Barry M Red Wine. For yellow, it was Rimmel Lasting Finish Sunshine. Green was OPI Don't Mess with OPI from the Texas collection. Blue was Barry M Cobalt Blue, a fantastic true blue. And purple was Nails Inc Maple Place.

A generous layer of quick-dry top coat, and my mani was complete. This is one of my favorite funky frenches - truly living up to the 'funky' name. Not for the timid, but Rainbow Dash isn't what you'd call timid.
